SHOOTING STAR - German Rubishkin

German Rubishkin was introduced to the discipline of ballet life at a very early age. His career culminated in many major danseur roles and an invitation to join the Bolshoi Ballet Company after graduating from the Vaganova Academy. Like many young stars who lived a sheltered but privileged life, Gera was given to amusing, and occasionally controversial, acts of rebellion.

For all his misgivings he nonetheless possessed a technical strength often compared to that of Rudolph Nureyev. His awe-inspiring leaps became his stage signature. From high jumps to high jinks, Gera is in every way a high flyer, on stage and in life. His eyes are seldom without that unique mischievous glint, singularly adorable and unpredictable.

His Arkangel portrait captures his proud bearing in a rare static pose. His fluttering wings extend all the way to his feet, suggesting the certain fact that he is innately capable of flying off in any new direction at the slightest inclination!

"He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in Eternity's sunrise".

-- William Blake
