THE EIGHTH ARKANGEL - James Roach

Native Canadian James Roach is a gentle, visionary man with an engaging smile and a quiet wisdom. While still a boy, James' internal voice was expressed by a staunch determination to tell the world his "remembrance of truth", through drum, dance songs and theatre. James Roach has passed through his doubts and troubles, and is reaching out to preserve the future of his Ojibway culture.

James' vision was essential to the choreography and instrumentation of the Arkangel Drum Dance of Algoma, conceived for the Algoma Fall Festival in 1996. Dancing the warrior dance in ceremonial dress, he made an unforgettable entrance amid strikes of lightning and raging thunder - a drama richly intensified by mesmerizing beat of native drums, provided by his loyal youth corps.

James carries the timeless rhythm and mystery of Mother Earth in his natural gait. He is captured in his native dress, complete with his trademark - a luminous jet black braid that hangs well past his waist.

"With the teachings of yesterday we can better prepare ourselves
for the uncertainties of tomorrow.
Use them to redirect your life to the principles of
living
in harmony with the natural world."
