Guardian V - Prima Ballerina - Natalia Dudinskaya

She graced the stages of the Kirov ballet for over 30 years. Schooled at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in Leningrad, she was Rudolph Nureyev's first partner. A passionate patriot, she continued dancing, even during the siege of Leningrad. The Fairy Doll, a role also cherished by Anna Pavlova, ultimately became her signature piece.

Prima Ballerina later turned her technical virtuosity as a ballerina to teaching, using an interactive approach that was more typically western than Russian. As artistic director of the Vaganova, she is a true Guardian -- ever mindful of the youthful exuberance of her charges. Her gift is one of love, compassion and infinite patience. Her unique acceptance of the passionate fires that burn in the souls of her students earns their trust. Her ability to focus their energy into eloquent performers commands their unwavering respect.

Since Perestroika, the Prima Ballerina has infused her love of the art into the veins of many, teaching ballet workshops all over the world. With a remarkable 50 year career as a Russian ambassadress of ballet, her devotion to the art of the dance remains unparalleled.
