KEEPER OF THE CULTURAL KEYS
Normand Blanchette
Inquisitive,
intellectual Normand Blanchette was assistant curator at Gallerie D'Art
du Centre Culturel du Drummondville during the premiere presentation
of Guardians and Arkangels in 1989. With a natural affinity for children,
Normand wove gloriously detailed stories about the show, capturing their
imaginations and leaving them spellbound He is enlivened by their spontaneous
honesty, his heart searching out the questions of their minds.
A modest
and humble man, Normand is now curator of the Gallerie Du Centre Culturel,
using the installations in his gallery to provoke the passion for culture
in the arts, for which the people of Quebec are noted.
This
portrait of Normand was done as part of a work in process at the Gallerie
Du Centre Culturel, during first showing of the Arkangels. His portrait
is that moment of deep thought -- before speaking.
A man's work
is nothing but this slow trek to rediscover,
through the detours of art, those two or three great
and simple images in whose presence his heart first opened.
